Katia, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs?
I'm Katia Leoni a 23-year-old photographer. I have always loved photography since I was a child, taking crooked photos of everything that caught my eye. Growing up I realized I wanted to learn how to take pictures so, I started studying photography on my own. I'm currently attending a master's in fashion photography at the Ferrari fashion school in Milan which has helped me become a better photographer.
How did you move specifically toward fashion and beauty photography? What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion photography was a passion. I didn't decide to follow this path, but my shots led me in this direction. Fashion is a way of expressing oneself, through editorial projects I can express myself and people can see the expression.
What inspires you and what gives you ideas to create your beautiful images? Can your ideas change depending on the model you are working with?
The inspiration for the projects I create comes from my mood, which influences the choice of the mood of the project that is then elaborated I am inspired by my surroundings. The choice of the model is important but, the choice is based on the mood to be created. In any case, there are many aspects to be considered.
What is the best part of being a photographer?
The best part of my job is being in constant contact with inspiring people, who help me broaden my horizons. Practically, my favorite part is taking the picture, that's where you really start creating.
How do you prepare for your new shootings?
The preparation of a new shooting starts with the design, then the mood board is created with all the necessary references, and we discuss with the team, the stylist (who created the clothes from scratch in this project) looks for the clothes that best represent the chosen project. At this point, the location and models are ready to be part of the project
What would you say is your style of photography?
My photographic style is clean and linear, I like to work on the photo in post-production to bring out all the details in the best possible way.
What role does social media play in your photography business?
Social media for a photographer today is so important, it allows you to share your projects, ideas, and world with as many people as possible. With social media, you have enormous visibility if you can exploit it in the right way. Now there are many sources on which you can share each project in different ways, in order to reach a large number of people.
What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?
The highlight of my career so far has been the publication of my first cover but, in the last year, I had experienced many good moments related to my profession. My hope for the future is to grow and learn as much as possible in order to make something that is truly mine.
