"The Barbiecore trend is bright, vibrant and defined by a very particular color that has been specially popular this year: pink"
Even though I’m pretty sure you have seen it already on social media, let me introduce you to Barbiecore, the fastest and best way to feel like you're a Barbie girl living in a Barbie world: the Barbiecore trend is bright, vibrant and defined by a very particular color that has been specially popular this year: pink.
If you take a look into apps like Pinterest, you may find moodboards dating back to 2019 that will indicate that Barbiecore isn't necessarily new, but it's just now making a real take off. The trend currently has 8.1 million views on TikTok, and has been super popular on Google since June 2022. We all heard about the new Barbie movie in the making, and of course the trend aligns with this growing buzz of Greta Gerwig’s movie, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken – and we’re all very excited to see it, specially the clothes our favorite doll will be wearing on the production.
As a fashion trend, Barbiecore already seems to be bubbling up within the fashion pack, and the colorful aesthetic exudes confidence and fun — something we'll happily take more of at any given time. But it's also safe to say Barbiecore as a fashion movement has been building even before we even thought about seeing Margot Robbie as the official face of it. For example, let’s remember how Tyra Banks took on the doll's tailored aesthetic as Eve in the 2000, and Reese Whinterspoon in Legally Blonde in 2001 was essentially a Barbie in a lawyear suit.
Like the world’s favorite doll, what constitutes Barbiecore is ever-evolving. Barbie’s concept is inspired by pop culture and fashion. And just like us, her style evolves to be reflect today's trends and culture. For 2022, as we are oficially back to the office and our social lives, Barbie's authentic, playfulness and bright, bold color palette is what we are trying to get back into our daily routines. If you paint a mental picture of Barbie, you’ll probably think of bubblegum pink, angular and hyper feminine clothing. And that's exactly what Barbiecore is bringing to the table.
