Anastasia, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs?
I have a really long road from getting diploma of photography till actually doing it. It took me 10 years to understand that it is my call and I’m good at it. And I want to remind everyone that it’s never too late to start from the very beginning.
From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional fashion photography?
I believe I know the problem which concerns many industries. Some people do not know what they are doing. So probably I can name it as a «lack of professionals» .
As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to master it?
You can create magic. This is what is all about. All you need to do is not afraid of making mistakes, not afraid to try and continue doing it, ‘cause when you stop, it’s over.
In your opinion, how beauty is perceived at the present age? What does photography mean to you personally and what really makes a woman beautiful?
I adore unusual faces. I love shooting in this period of time, because faces are so different. But I really miss the beauty of 90’s models.
What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why?
I love crazy models. I. Think this is one of the keys to successful shoot. It’s good to release yourself from time to time.
Are there any other photographers you lookup? Who?
I prefer to be inspired from old movies. I love to see how people put their souls into production. They did not have all the equipment that we have now, but they conducted an amazing work with light, style and spirit.
You are going about conducting a photoshoot, could you take us through the typical planning process for your images?
The answer goes right from the previous answer. So I watched a movie, that really got me inspired. Told this idea to my team or to new professionals which I’d like too work with and then it goes or it doesn’t go. I’d really like to mention that it is ok if something that you really want to shoot doesn’t find a reply from your team, model agency, editor, etc.
In addition to being sharp and well lit, your photos are beautifully edited. What is your retouching/production philosophy?
I believe that retouch is part of this world and you need to be a best friend with it. Retouch with «no retouch» effect is my philosophy.
Most of my work are retouched by me and it’s the hardest part of my job. I can’t sit still for a long time, so I have my «right hand» , my retoucher who doing photos as I would do. I think she’s a treasure.
What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio?
Don’t be scared to write to photographers! It’s a common situation when I can not find a model. We’re all in one world and communication can help us all to succeed .
What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?
I have plenty of upcoming collaborations. And I’m super excited to start it.
My goal is to shoot as many interesting covers, stories and people as I can. It’s the best part of my job!
