Beyond the skin: when the body becomes marble
Beyond the skin: when the body becomes marble is a fine art body painting project by Maurizio Fruzzetti for MALVIE Magazine, on model Lara Spinetti, photographed by Massimo Pagliazzi and Maurizio Fruzzetti.
Beyond the Skin: When the Body Becomes Marble
In the solemn silence of the quarries and in the fluidity of a gesture that combines technique and poetry, body painting transforms into pure sculpture. It's not simply a matter of painting a surface, but of listening to the human form and merging it inextricably with the material. This is the heart of my artistic journey: an intimate dialogue between the living being and the ancestral strength of stone.
Each work is born from a profound love for this craft and the valorization of femininity. My models are never simple canvases, but custodians and spokespeople for the work: through their grace and the strength of their curves, the painting comes to life, celebrating a beauty that can become a monument.
The culmination of this research is expressed in the total fusion between the body and the marble. Recreating the veining of the stone on bare skin requires precision and anatomical respect, with the aim of erasing all boundaries. When the model immerses herself in the marble setting, flesh and mineral become one, giving life to a living statue that seems to emerge directly from the mountain.
This alchemy sometimes reaches territories of pure magnificence, as in the interpretation where the veins are illuminated by golden reflections. In this version, the light caresses the warm tones of gold insinuated between the skin and the stone, enhancing the preciousness of the material and transforming the model into a regal vision, suspended between eternity and splendor.
Maurizio Fruzzetti: Art Beyond the Skin
Artist, Master of Arts, and international master of body painting, Maurizio Fruzzetti has made transformation and visual exploration his signature style. With a profound mastery of pictorial and anatomical techniques, Fruzzetti explores the human body not as a mere support, but as a living material capable of dialoguing with natural elements and classical sculpture. From his works inspired by the Apuan quarries and marbles to his refined geometric and floral interplay, his artistic journey celebrates the fusion of aesthetics, emotion, and the majesty of matter. From his studio and art school in Massa, he pursues a vision in which painting on skin becomes monument and visual poetry.

About Beyond the skin
In Beyond the skin, the painted body lies, sits and leans among huge blocks of white and grey stone. In the first frames the veining of the marble runs over the skin until the figure almost disappears into the rock; in the others the paint turns warm gold, crossed by pale veins.
The golden version is crowned with headdresses of pink orchids and a fan of violet and silver, with blue lips and blue lids. The series closes with white feathered wings and a dark feather collar, the stone everywhere around.
