Kimberly, how did your career begin in the world of beauty?

My career all started back in 2018. A dear friend and mentor, Crystal Jones believed in me and offered to teach me. Ever since then, I have been working on my dream and I'm seeing my dream come true.

Why is having an MUA essential to a photographer?

Having an MUA working alongside a photographer is important to create “that” look. What can you provide to help a photographer's images stand out? What I provide is a vision. It’s not just about the makeup, but the overall look all the way down to the attire. Working together as a team to get the job done ever

Why is shooting for camera and lights, different than everyday makeup?

When you’re in front of the camera you have to have a little more coverage to be able to see the dimensions of the face versus with everyday makeup, it’s lighter. Also when our team of creatives gets together to bring an idea to life, it's so exciting to see my creations come to life.

You have an impressive portfolio. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?

My signature look is soft glam, but what sets me apart is my versatility from editorial to special effects makeup.

What's the best advice you as a makeup artist have ever gotten?

The best advice I have received from another makeup artist was “give the client what they want, even if you do not agree after having told them. It’s not about you, it’s about them. ”

Can you tell us about a memorable moment you had while doing makeup?

A memorable time I had was being a part of shooting my best friend for MALVIE, twice. Now both of us are published.

What area of the makeup industry is your favorite and why?

I love editorial and special effects makeup. It allows me to be creative and showcase my skills.

In your opinion, what are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup? Common mistakes I see women make on their makeup is choosing a foundation color that matches their skin tone. (as close as possible).

Can you name some of your favorite makeup products to use?

A few of my favorite makeup products to use, especially on brown skin are Sacha buttercup setting powder, Ben Nye Final Seal, and Elf power grip primer. What three makeup items should no woman leave home without? A nude lip gloss pressed powder and concealer.

What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years?

My future plans are to have my own cosmetic line. I want to include a full makeup line.
