Set Designer: Matka @matka.nycHappy to have you here, Maria. Tell us your story, how did you get started modeling and where is your home at the moment?
I was "discovered" by a lady who worked for a modeling management company when I worked at a kiosk inside the mall years ago. She had me do a test photoshoot which pretty much jumpstarted my modeling experience. I took a break for some time when I was recovering from a serious car accident and then made a move to New York City! In the Big Apple, there have just been so many opportunities and I've been able to freelance for the past few years after going on hiatus for a while! Working towards building a stronger portfolio, so I can submit it to agencies.

What are your favorite genres and styles of modeling? In your opinion, what are your strongest features as a model?
I really love fashion editorials. But I also live for the runway! As for features, in my opinion (and I've been told this as well), my strongest features are my legs. long torso, also my overall unique look.
What would be your 3 health-wellness-beauty tips for young women?
Drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and stay fit! Working out is a necessity for me. I'm a former athlete and keeping myself in shape and toned helps to maintain my image.
If you could change something in the modeling world, what would it be?
I think the modeling world has done a better job, as of recent, being more inclusive. We need more of it! Diversity is so important!
What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?
Honestly, the second chance I've been given at life (after surviving a near-fatal car accident in 2004) has fueled my inner fire for the past 16+ years, and an emergency heart surgery I had back in February reignited that fire! I'm highly motivated knowing that I'm a survivor, and am here for a reason. I find inspiration, daily, in the smallest things to keep me going. Also, my faith helps a lot.

What's one of the most interesting shoots that you've done?
I've had quite a few, I remember a music video shoot I did where every scene was a different look. These looks were bold, colorful, and just out of the norm. It was quite interesting seeing myself in different colored wigs and outrageous outfits lol
If you could say something to everyone on the planet, what would it be?
Do what you love, love what you do. And love one another. Seriously.
When you want to unwind, what are your favorite go-to activities?
Some might not call it "unwinding" but I love working out, shooting hoops, as well as writing poetry, reading, and DJ'ing! (just bought a new set of turntables that I'm learning how to use, I love music!)
What's something you haven't achieved but hope to?
Create my LLC, and open my own agency/business that focuses on entertainment, media and communications. Would also love to get signed to a management company and expand my modeling brand.
What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?
Currently just working with various independent designers on editorials, doing branded collaborations and concept shoots. My immediate goals are to update and create a stronger portfolio so I can create more opportunities with brand partnerships and hopefully, sign with an agency or management company.
Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you?
