Olesya Salomatina: I want to prove to people that fashion is not a surface industry.

Can you give us a bit of background on how your career evolved?

I began as a personal stylist: I went shopping with clients and gave advice about personal style. But then I understood, that photography is one of the most interesting ways of realization. So I began to organize photoshoots and met a lot of talented photographers and makeup artists.

How hard has it been establishing yourself in the industry and what are some of the largest things you've faced?

It was not very hard, because if you have got a lot of great ideas, people see it, and they want to work with U. I am from Yekaterinburg, this is a big megalopolis next to the Ural Mountains. However, there are a lot of people who think that a stylist/ art director on the set is not necessary. And now I try to do all possible to improve it.

What is your main source of inspiration?

People and traveling inspire me most of all. Also, I am interested in history and how does it influence fashion.

What do you want to achieve through fashion?

fashion is a way to express to me, I want to achieve people that fashion is art.

What kind of impact do you hope to make in the fashion world?

It’s a very difficult question. I think fashion styling is very important in the industry. I want to prove to people that fashion is not a surface industry. Fashion is a very deep art, but everyone can be involved in it.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

Every morning begins with Vogue Runway. Also, I read news about the fashion industry from different telegram channels and I prefer reading issues from Buro 24/7.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice was: “don’t give up and listen to your heart”

What exciting new project should we expect from you in the future?

I try to make interesting projects every month. The next project will be dedicated to happy Valentine’s Day. My team decided to show loneliness on this day. Every year (except the last) I spend this day alone, and sometimes I felt very terrible about this. So we want to show that Valentine’s Day it’s a romantic day for somebody. But not for lonely people.
