Daniele Prato: A woman is no more or less herself whether she poses dressed, in lingerie, or nude—she should simply be free to be herself in any context.

This editorial has two very distinct visual languages: dramatic black-and-white imagery and warm, sun-filled portraits by the window. What was the creative concept behind bringing these contrasting moods together?

I wanted to represent Savannah in two completely different contexts: a home setting and a studio setting. The former aimed to highlight her femininity within the comfort of a home, while the latter, focusing more closely on detail, was meant to portray her womanhood decontextualized from any specific environment.

Your use of light is particularly striking, from the almost sculptural shadows in the black-and-white images to the soft natural light in the color photographs. How did you approach lighting Savannah for this story?

In the first setting, I used only natural light. I wanted it to feel as genuine as possible without making it appear artificial. In the second, I used a single light source to create a low-key effect that highlighted her physique and femininity.

Savannah comes across as both powerful and vulnerable throughout the editorial. What was it about her presence or personality that influenced the way you photographed her?

I asked Savannah to simply be herself and immerse herself in the environment. The rest came naturally, as I focused on capturing genuine poses and expressions rather than static ones.

There are moments that feel spontaneous and intimate rather than traditionally “posed.” How much of the final imagery was planned, and how much came from reacting to Savannah in the moment?

As I mentioned in my previous answer, she was completely natural. Everything happened spontaneously rather than being staged.

The location and window setting become almost another character in the photographs. What attracted you to this environment, and how did you use the space to shape the story?

I felt that the soft light of the mountain sunset was the ideal setting to bring out the best in Savannah. The idea of posing by the window was her own creative touch, which I really appreciated.

Looking back at the shoot, what do you feel is the central emotion or message you wanted the viewer to take away from this editorial?

A woman is no more or less herself whether she poses dressed, in lingerie, or nude—she should simply be free to be herself in any context.
