About Mauvaise Grâce
Mauvaise Grâce sets a court portrait inside bare architecture. The model, her platinum hair slicked flat and her skin pale, wears a black double-breasted jacket drawn close at the waist over a skirt built in deep successive tiers, with a wide white tulle ruff framing the face. Grey concrete walls, a metal floor grid and a single dark ceiling lamp are the only setting.
L · I · A keeps the light low and cool and the attitude cold. She sets a boot on a concrete block, sits forward on a stool with her hands on her knees, crouches on the grid, kicks one leg out and leans back against the wall, looking away at first and then meeting the lens with open irritation. Close-ups of the scowling face inside the ruff end the series on its hardest note.
