About Shadow

Shadow is built almost entirely from darkness. Against a deep, near-black background, Cassandra Hierholzer appears wrapped in dark sheer volumes of fabric that rise around her neck and shoulders, so that only her face and a few soft folds catch the light.

The makeup carries the story: sharp, graphic black lines sweep out from the eyes like wings, small dots sit at the temple and the lips are painted a deep, dark shade. Her hair is drawn back or pinned up, and her gaze moves from a direct look to closed eyes and a head tilted back into the shadows.
