Surface Tension

Surface Tension is a portrait series photographed by Corina Bartkus for MALVIE Magazine.

The delicate relationship between strength and surrender. As she enters the water, submission gives way to power. What begins as resistance becomes acceptance. She does not conquer the water. She learns she owns it.

About Surface Tension

Surface Tension follows one woman with long, curly auburn hair into a lake, wearing a plum gown by JJsHouse. In the first frames the water is pale and bright and mirrors her completely: she stands at the edge, the gown spread around her, then wades in until only her shoulders and her reflection remain.

Corina Bartkus then turns to deep blue water and warm, low sunlight. The gown darkens as it soaks, her hair falls over her shoulders and she looks back toward the camera, hand at her temple, standing calm and settled where the series began with hesitation.
