About The Melancholy of Time

The Melancholy of Time takes place in a derelict room whose floor is covered in pale sand. Zhivkova Marga wears a long black lace dress with ruffled tiers, flared lace cuffs and a sheer, layered skirt, her shoulder-length brown hair loose. Around her stand empty, tarnished mirror frames, a dusty chandelier, heavy green curtains and a tall window.

Aleksei Mikhailov follows the low, golden light as it falls across the sand. She lets sand run through her fingers, sits with her face lifted to the window, reclines on the sand with her skirt spread around her and stands beside an old mirror leaning on the wall. Still, soft and a little wistful, the series lingers on texture: lace, crumbling plaster and sand.
