About Allegory of Temptation
Allegory of Temptation is staged on deep brown velvet, among cushions, a gilded frame and an old mirror. The model wears a white lace corset top and a long white skirt, long sheer black gloves and strands of pearls at the neck, the waist and spilling across the fabric. Her hair falls in loose blonde waves, and her lips are painted a bright red that echoes the fruit.
A split pomegranate is the centre of the story: held to the cheek, bitten into, then left lying among the pearls as the model reclines with her eyes closed. Mariya Tyushnyakova moves between warm, rich colour and black and white, using a long exposure for a blurred, dreamlike opening frame. The series ends upright on a golden armchair, pearls twisted between the fingers and a level gaze at the camera.
