Starcloth
Starcloth is a portrait editorial photographed by Henry Alvarado with model Kelly Petersen, published in the printed edition MALVIE Body Positivity 139. In the photographer's words: "Starcloth is a series of twelve portraits built around a single object: a star-printed scarf that becomes, from frame to frame, a veil, a cape, a wing and a night sky."
From the printed edition: MALVIE Body Positivity 139
Starcloth is one of the editorials in MALVIE Body Positivity 139, the new printed edition of MALVIE Magazine, alongside The Snowgirl, Fashion as a Space of Freedom, The Silhouette Aesthetic and Sugar & Sin.
The printed edition will be available to order from our print partners MagCloud, Peecho and DPBee.
About Starcloth
Starcloth keeps the styling deliberately simple: a navy chiffon scarf scattered with pale stars, black jeans or a black bralette, bare feet and long auburn hair. Kelly Petersen wraps herself in the scarf, lets it fall open from the shoulders, holds it out like a wing and turns her bare back to the camera with the fabric hanging low.
Henry Alvarado finishes each frame with a different surface, from cracked plaster and burnt, aged edges to rust-orange walls, misty blue-green grounds, ochre haze and drifting smoke on black. The moods change with them, a shy half-smile, a wide laugh, a light dancing step, a still and guarded look, so the same cloth reads differently in every portrait.
