Happy to have you here, Deboshree. Tell us your story, how did you get started modeling and where is your home at the moment?

Thank you so much and it's a pleasure to be published with MALVIE Magazine. I am a model, mother of two precious boys and have a full time corporate career. I am currently living in the Bay Area, California, USA. While I was pursuing my bachelors back in India I did some small modelling assignments. I walked the ramp and it gave me immense pleasure to do so. But as time passed and I started focusing on my career and moved to the USA after marrying my husband, I started drifting away from my passion and started focusing on my family life. In the last 11 years of moving to the USA and having two beautiful boys, I realized that it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone, take risks, take that leap of faith, believe in myself and pursue my passion. I am a very artistic person at heart and always wanted to work on very challenging modelling projects that have a theme behind it, which require me to embody a personality. I find that very fulfilling and started blogging on Instagram and collaborating with very talented photographers on really amazing concepts. My Instagram reach started growing slowly and I have started getting many modelling opportunities for brands and also opportunities to work with really talented photographers. It's no turning back for me now. I am loving this new journey where every single day I am growing as an artist and at the same time fulfilling my dreams. My husband and kids see me happy and are very supportive towards my modelling career.

Tell us more about yourself. What else do you do next to modeling?

Apart from modelling I am a published and very successful Product marketing vertical leader for a silicon valley based technology company. I also have passion for acting and I am also working with a few upcoming directors on fashion video covers and small movie concepts. I love working on my fitness, I am a marathon runner and a crossfitter. Being a mother I think it's extremely important that I focus on my health and fitness.

What do you love most about being a model? And, what do you least enjoy?

Modelling to me is my artistic release, what I love about modelling is I get to brainstorm on ideas and create a vision. This helps me to get into that character and really tell a story through my expressions and body language in my pictures. Honestly there's nothing that don't like or least enjoy about modelling, I try to find time from my very busy life to work on my vision, design a shoot and execute it with really talented people in the industry and all this I do it with a lot of excitement even when I am so tired and so swamped with a lot of things on my plate. When you do what you love it's never a burden it's always so exciting!

What is the most challenging being a model?

The most challenging thing is to bring all that vision and the character that you are trying to play into those few pictures. It's comparatively easier in acting as its a complete video to convey the message but in pictures it's your eyes, your every body part that needs to be in sync and so expressive to really depict that vision. I feel even as a model one really needs to be prepared to embody the persona that they need to bring to life through their photos.

If you could change something in the modeling world, what would it be?

As a mother and having faced this perception in the industry that models who are moms are not easy to work with as they have a lot of other responsibilities, I would like to change this perception. Being a mother should not be the measure of someone's talent. Infact from my very own experience, if you have that fire in you and that hunger to make a change, you will do it no matter whatever stage of life you are in. Also at the same time I have come across really amazing people in the modelling world who do respect talent and hard work and see beyond these perceptions.

What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?

I get motivated from real life scenarios, human feelings and ideas that can make a change in the society. I am a dreamer and love brainstorming on ideas creating a story from my vision.

I am also a very good listener and love to listen to the ideas that others bring to the table, learn from them and also work with creatives to craft something really exciting.

What keeps you excited about life in general?

That me and my family are healthy, happy and every moment in life is an opportunity to grab it and turn it towards the directions I want it to go. To me every single day is a new opportunity to explore myself and really work on myself and my dreams. I have always believed that if I can make myself happy first by doing what I am passionate about then I am sure to give my best to everything I do and every relationship in my life. Having a mindset like this and practicing it always keeps me excited about my life.

Looking back, how has modeling experience changed your personal/professional life? Have you grown more comfortable with yourself since you have started?

Yes it's definitely made me more accepting of myself with all my flaws and imperfections. I have developed immense self confidence. I have learnt a lot of new things about myself and also I have learnt to manage my personal life along with modelling very well.

What kind of life would you like to have?

A healthy, loving and adventurous life. A life where I can look back and say "I really lived it."

What are the achievements you are proud of most of today?

That I am a very confident woman today. Apart from all my professional success, what's important to me the most and what makes me proud of myself is that I have taken the leap, stepped out of my comfort zone and made a difference in my and others lives too. When other women come up to me and tell me that I inspire them to be bold and pursue their dreams it makes me feel so content that I have been able to make a difference in someone's life.
