About Elegy for Julia

Elegy for Julia unfolds slowly, like an afternoon spent reading. Yulia Filkina sits on a red patterned rug with an open book, lies among candles and maple leaves holding an apple, and pauses with a cup in her hands beside a pile of bentwood chairs.


The wardrobe stays dark and simple: an oversized charcoal jacket, a black slip dress, black boots and a string of pearls, so that the orange leaves, red berries and candlelight carry the colour. Elena Kovalets keeps the light soft and golden, close to the mood of an old painting.
