About NightDay
NightDay plays two moods against each other, mostly in black and white. The night frames sit on a black background: Anastasia Burilina, with a mass of dark curls, appears out of the shadow in a black top, her hair fanned out around her face, then holding a bunch of dried hydrangeas. The day frames are bright and high-key on white, where she wears a pale trench coat and patterned tights.
An old leather suitcase becomes the prop of the day story. She sits on it in the open trench coat, rests her head in her hands on it, carries it in a pleated skirt and lies back beside it with her legs propped on the open case. Aleksey Markin keeps the close portraits direct and still, and the full-length shots light and playful, like two sides of one character.
