About Two Muses

Two Muses is a portrait of friendship in black and white. Both women have silver hair: one wears a crisp white shirt with a loose black tie, grey wide-leg trousers, a black belt, long ropes of pearls and round black glasses, the other a soft white trouser suit with bold gold earrings and red lips. A white curtain, a fur-covered chair and a classical plaster bust make up the pale studio.


Natalia Kogan lets the pair lean on each other. They stand back to back with arms crossed, rest a hand on a shoulder, turn in profile face to face and break into wide smiles, while solo frames give each woman her own moment, one with hands at her chin and pearls at her throat, the other seated with a bunch of purple flowers. The mood is warm, confident and quietly playful.
