Monumental Waltz
Monumental Waltz is a fashion editorial photographed by Andrey Barilo with model Vera Ivashkevich, who also styled the looks from her own wardrobe, published in the printed edition MALVIE Effortless Chic 163. In the photographer's words: "This series represents a monumental waltz — the powerful confidence of a dark, mysterious soul moving through a stark, silent world."
From the printed edition: MALVIE Effortless Chic 163

About Monumental Waltz
Monumental Waltz is shot in black and white at the foot of a pale building of tall pilasters, deep window recesses and paved ground. Vera Ivashkevich is dressed entirely in black: a flat-brimmed hat, a long coat over a dress, a chain belt at the waist and heavy lace-up boots. Against the white stone she reads almost as a silhouette.
Andrey Barilo shoots from low with a wide lens, so the columns lean in around her while she spins, leaps and stretches her arms like a dancer. The hat brim hides most of her face, revealing only the lips or a single eye, which keeps the figure mysterious. The deep blacks recall analogue film, and two quieter frames close the series: a portrait under the brim and a crouch against a bare wall.
