About Painted Lady

Painted Lady is set among brightly painted wooden houses, their porches, railings and front doors in pink, red, purple, blue, green and cream above old brick steps. Ashlee Montgomery, with short cropped hair and gold hoop earrings, wears a single strong colour: a chartreuse top with wide draped cape sleeves over olive trousers, with red heels. The acid green sits boldly against the candy colours of the facades.


Azana Green follows her up and down the steps in warm late-day light. She leans on banisters, crouches on the pavement, stretches an arm up against a wall and raises both arms overhead, while closer frames show rosy makeup by Vanessa Vargas and a calm, steady gaze. A blurred golden foreground in one portrait and a tilted final frame over a railing keep the series lively.
