Sanyu’s Golden Solitude
Sanyu’s Golden Solitude is a fine art portrait series photographed by Xuhan with model Jiang, makeup and hair by Qin, published in the printed edition MALVIE Celebrating Diversity 129. In the photographer's words: "A fine-art portrait series inspired by Sanyu, the celebrated Chinese-French painter, and his iconic visual language: restrained ochre-gold tones, raw brush textures, solitary anthurium blooms, simple ceramic vessels and languid, unhurried figures. The series unfolds in two chapters, both paired with anthurium flowers: the first in a warm ochre gown, the second in minimalist black silhouettes. Painterly studio light recreates his signature quiet solitude, a gentle, introspective melancholy free from excess ornament."

About Sanyu’s Golden Solitude
Sanyu’s Golden Solitude opens with the warm chapter. Against a black backdrop brushed with streaks of ochre and gold, on a floor of ochre cloth, Jiang wears a draped ochre gown and holds a single yellow anthurium to her face; a turquoise vase stands beside her as she kneels, reclines and lies on the floor with the flower across her arms.
In the second chapter the gown gives way to a simple black slip dress. Xuhan keeps the same painterly light: she holds a small yellow vase, hides half her face behind an anthurium, lets its long stem run down her bare back and lies on the ochre cloth with her arms above her head. Calm and unhurried, the series feels close to a painting.
