About The Strings That Bind

The Strings That Bind turns the model into a marionette. Long golden threads fall from above the frame, cross her face and loop around her wrists, while Georgina Bloom wears a pale, sheer corset dress with a long tulle skirt and gold bangles. Ava Greenwood's makeup is the striking detail: red lips, pink petals scattered over one cheek and dark red streaks running down from the eye like tears.

The first part is shot against a warm rust-red wall in close, painterly portraits, eyes closed or looking past the camera, hands lifted at the wrists as if pulled. The second part moves to a black ground, where the strings glow and the figure arches backwards over a flash of red underskirt, threads tangled at her feet. The light is soft and low, the mood melancholic and theatrical.
